Everybody Matters teaches K-12 students how to cope and thrive.
Regardless of their background or emotional state, every child deserves the best education possible and a life of happiness and fulfillment—because every child matters. That’s the guiding philosophy behind Everybody Matters (EM), a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching lifelong coping and social skills to children who can benefit from additional support. Our trauma-responsive support is provided by university interns who receive specialized training and ongoing feedback from experienced clinicians on the EM staff. This enables them to empower children with a wide variety of lifelong coping skills, which in turn helps the kids to thrive in the classroom, at home and throughout their lives.
Everybody Matters matches students with dedicated social work interns.
“We are simultaneously helping kids and building the next generation of committed, engaged, and fired-up social workers. As a social worker, I saw so many kids falling through cracks and families that weren’t in the position to get the services they needed. As a professor, I saw talented college students with so much to offer, anxious to get robust real-world experience, and bring their academic studies to life.”

The success of Everybody Matters was demonstrated in a study during the 2018–2019 school year in the Balsz School District in Phoenix. Teachers and parents were surveyed before and after each eight-week individualized support session. The students were assessed on their ability to:
- positively express emotions
- demonstrate positive social skills
- cope with life circumstances
- use coping skills
- improve overall classroom or home behavior
The average teacher rating for a child's emotional well-being increased from 2.6 to 3 on the five-point Likert scale. The parent average increased from 2.6 to 3.3 on the same scale.
Both teacher and parent surveys showed that Everybody Matters was most effective in helping with the most common areas of referral: coping skills and emotional support. Read the report.

Students are the key to their own success.
“At Everybody Matters, we teach our social work interns that behavior has meaning. First we work to understand “why” the student is behaving the way they are, then we can help them improve. Our interns understand the fight-flight-freeze dynamic and how the kids’ behaviors can be explained via those reactions. These aren’t “bad” kids—they are great kids having “stress” reactions. As experts in their own experience, each child holds the key to their own happiness and ability to thrive.”
